• eBay und Skype gehen getrennte Wege

  Laut einer Pressemitteilung vom 14.04.2009 plant eBay die Trennung von Skype für das Jahr 2010. eBay erklärte, dass man vorhabe, das entsprechende IPO in der ersten Jahreshälfte 2010 abzuschließen. eBay-President John Donahoe erklärte: „Skype is a great stand-alone business with strong fundamentals and accelerating momentum. But it’s clear that Skype has limited synergies with eBay and PayPal. We believe operating Skype as a stand-alone publicly traded company is the best path for maximizing its potential. This will give Skype the focus and resources required to continue its growth and effectively compete in online voice and video communications. In addition, separating Skype will allow eBay to focus entirely on our two core growth engines-e-commerce and online payments-and deliver long-term value to our stockholders.“ Skype habe 2008 Umsätze in Höhe von 551 Mio. US-$ erzielt, was einer Steigerung von 44 % gegenüber 2007 bedeute. Die Anzahl an Registrierungen habe gegen Ende 2008 405 Mio. Nutzer betragen, was ebenfalls eine Steigerung von über 40 % gegenüber 2007 darstelle.
